The answer on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is in: he’s staying with the Edmonton Oilers.

The Oilers announced the news via a tweet on Friday, confirming that their first overall pick will not be rejoining the junior club. ”It’s official, fans! Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is going to remain in an Oilers uniform and not return to junior, ” read the tweet.

Nugent-Hopkins will suit up for his tenth game of the season tonight and, after that, the entry-level contract kicks into full gear.

The Oilers have been high on the 18-year-old thus far and are impressed with his composure and command as a young player. ”He knows the spotlight has been on him and will continue to be, but he went out there and did what he’s always done,” said GM Steve Tambellini.

Most weren’t surprised by the news, as Nugent-Hopkins’ production has been off the page. He’s currently tied with Jordan Eberle for the team’s scoring lead, having netted five goals and four assists in nine games so far.
